Education is the Best Social Equalizer
Caritas Manila strongly believes that the best and most effective way to fight and end poverty is through education— but not just any education. It is Servant Leadership education, aimed at helping scholars become good servant leaders in their communities.
Caritas Manila believes that YSLEP is the best social equalizer and that the future leaders of the country will come from the poor.
This is why the Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program (YSLEP) is the flagship program of Caritas Manila.
Over 5,000 Scholars Nationwide each year
YSLEP provides around 5,000 college and tech-voc scholarships to deserving youths nationwide each year.
It produces approximately 1,000 graduates annually, with nearly 50% of scholars graduating with honors or academic distinction.
We Prioritize Disadvantaged Youths
YSLEP prioritizes the disadvantaged youths from Metro Manila like those from Payatas and Baseco; youths from the poorest provinces such as Apayao ands Masbate; indigenous peoples; victims of calamities and those affected by conflicts in the poorest areas of Mindanao.
What we Aim for
- 100% of our scholars become active Servant Leaders in the Church or their community.
- 100% of our scholars finish college.
- 100% of our graduates become employed within 6 months after graduation.
YSLEP - GEN129
Caritas Manila recognizes the importance of nurturing future agriculturists to help improve the country’s agricultural landscape. Consequently, YSLEP-GEN129 was launched—a special project under the Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program (YSLEP) that prioritizes scholars pursuing degrees in agriculture and requires them to cultivate their own demo farms.
Gen129 is Caritas Manila’s initiative aimed at creating a better common home and a more sustainable future. It aligns with Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical on caring for our common home.
Paying It Forward through "Balik-Handog"
In Caritas Manila Alumni Scholars Association (CAMASA), our former scholars give back by becoming Caritas Manila donors and remaining active in their parishes and communities through various outreach projects.
Graduates of the Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program (YSLEP) are encouraged to donate one hundred pesos (₱100.00) monthly to help support the education of current scholars. This is how we keep the tradition of generosity alive.
