The Diocese of Iligan with Radio Veritas 846 and Caritas Manila lead the distribution of goods to the evacuation centers in Iligan city for residents of Marawi City fleeing the violence in the area.
In an interview with Church-run Radio Veritas, Rev. Fr. Ricardo Valencia, priest minister of Caritas Damayan Program of Caritas Manila said that the Church is committed to supporting the affected families in evacuation centers.
“ Patuloy ang pangangailangan ng mga nagsilikas dahil sa kaguluhan sa Marawi kaya’t magpapatuloy din ang Simbahan sa pag-agapay sa kanila.” Fr. Valencia said.
According to the Diocese of Iligan Social Action Center, they have distributed 40 pieces of water filters, 360 pieces of underwears and 2 boxes of assorted medicines.
Fr. Valencia added that aside from food and clothing, the evacuees also need hygiene kits, towels, pillows , blankets, folding beds and kitchenware, to ease the living condition of families in the camp sites. They also appeal for coloring, writing and art materials to help improve and ease the psychosocial conditions of the children traumatized by the firefight in Marawi City
Meanwhile, Caritas Manila executive director Rev Fr. Anton C.T. Pascual said that the social arm of the Archdiocese of Manila will send another P500,000 for purchase of rice, food and water.
Earlier, Caritas Manila has sent P500,000 and 100 cavans of rice as initial help to the residents affected by the crisis in Marawi City.
