Caritas Manila, the leading social development arm of Archdiocese of Manila, in partnership with Radio Veritas846 is set to hold this year’s Alay Kapwa Telethon on Holy Monday, March 26, 2018 from 6am to 6pm to raise awareness and funds for Caritas Damayan, the Preventive Health and Disaster Management program of Caritas Manila.
Alay Kapwa is an annual Lenten Evangelization and fundraising program of the Philippine Roman Catholic Church for social services for the less fortunate and those in need, especially during times of disaster.Funds raised from the program will be used as emergency funds for both natural and human-caused calamities like typhoons, floods, fire, earthquakes, and other tragedies and crises, and for disaster prevention and mitigation programs.
With the theme “Renewed Servant Leaders towards Living-out the Spirituality of Alay Kapwa”, the Alay Kapwa Telethon program calls on the public to be united in faith, heart and mind in helping the poor and the needy, especially during times of disaster.
Last 2017, proceeds of Alay Kapwa Lenten collection were used to extend Caritas Damayan’s relief operations to help the victims of Surigao earthquake, typhoons Urduja and Vinta, various fires and disasters in Metro Manila, and the rehabilitation of Marawi. Caritas Manila also provided relief and rehabilitation assistance to 14,732 families nationwide.
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, D.D., on his pastoral letter, appeals to the faithful to extend a helping hand to others by supporting the Alay Kapwa 2018.
“With the increasing number and magnitude of disasters and calamities being responded by Caritas Damayan, our Alay Kapwa funds get immediately depleted. It is therefore our hope that we will be more generous in almsgiving this season of Lent,” Cardinal Tagle said.
Listeners can participate and donate in the telethon by calling 925-7931 to 39, 563-9311 or 562-0020 to 25. Phone lines will be open throughout the live broadcast over Radio Veritas 846 and also via livestreaming at www.veritas846.ph.
